Find Public Marriage Records
People have many different reasons and purposes for wishing to get copies of public marriage records. Some want them in order to trace their family’s history. Others need a copy of their marriage license because they are going to be filing for divorce. But for the majority of the people who search public marriage records, they are just taking precaution to check on their own partners or those of their loved ones because they know love is blind.
It used to be that when you needed to get hold of a copy of marriage records, the only way this could be done was by visiting the local recording office where such information was held. However, the internet nowadays allows you to carry out such searches from the comfort of your home, saving you both time and money. Below, we take a look at a few ways in which commercial information providers extend their services to not only do the searching for you but will also then order the public marriage records and have them delivered to you.
The standard format used by most online record providers requires you to enter the name and age of the person whose public marriage records you need into the search box. Once entered, you click on the search button and after processing, a list of names along with where they are located will appear on the screen. All you do is just select the person you are interested in getting the information of based on its location and the associated state marriage records will be produced. It must be noted that marriage records come under state jurisdiction and are segregated accordingly by states. For you to actually get a copy of people’s marriage records a background check on the party will be carried out first and that will entail a fee. But with this service, you don’t just get the marriage details, you also get where they currently live, details of any criminal records and/or legal judgments made against them in small claims courts, any property liens and their home value.
Another operating model of providing records commercially online is through direct links to hundreds of government agencies in the US which are tasked with the function. The databases of such information brokers are created by pulling public records from these agencies. When you place an order with one of these sites, your request is then passed on to the appropriate agency for them to process and then ship a hard copy of the document you require to you. You have the choice of either getting the information forwarded by regular mail or pay an additional fee and have it delivered within two days by courier. Having it delivered by courier means that you can actually track where your order is and to ensure that it reaches you safely and on time.
Another type of service differs quite a bit from that offered by the above other two. When you place an order, they will then actually send out one of their researchers in person to the particular public office that holds the public marriage records that you are after. They then obtain copies of the documents by walk-up for delivery to you. How much they charge will depend on exactly the location of where the researcher needs to go.
When it comes to getting hold of free marriage records, there are quite a few sites online that offer such a service. But generally, the information that they provide will be very limited. Typically, it will show the person’s name, age, place of birth and place of work and residence. Also, it will show the time and place of the marriage and also who witnessed the ceremony and who conducted it. Plus these marriage records will show the couple’s parents’ details but nothing more.
